Socializing your dog is a great way to enjoy an ad Socializing your dog is a great way to enjoy an adventure with them, but it can sometimes feel like such a headache, but it doesn’t have to! Here are some tips for making sure the experience goes smoothly.

Not everyone needs to pet your dog/puppy:
“Being social” in dog terms means your dog needs to be calm around other people and dogs. It is much better for you to teach your dog to ignore other people by telling them not to pet your dog than to have everyone pet him or her and behave in a way that may be seen as
threatening or rude.

Your dog/puppy doesn't need to say hi to every dog it sees:
If every time your dog/puppy is allowed to drag you over to every dog, they will
come to expect that this is what happens with every dog they see, regardless of
what you think or the other dog. It can also lead to over-excitement while
on leash, which can lead to aggressive behaviour while on leash.

Not all dogs like puppies, not all dogs like other dogs:
To teach your dog/puppy how to behave around other dogs, he or she must first learn how to be calm when meeting new dogs. It is not playtime. That means not dragging you over to meet them, your dog needs to learn to put you and your rules first.

When you set your dog/puppy up for success from day one and pay attention to the state of mind you are reinforcing, you will have a much better chance of having a well-behaved adult dog.

Working with my dog Apollo has made me the person Working with my dog Apollo has made me the person I am today. His behaviour challenged and motivated me to learn more about myself, which in turn helped improve all aspects of our relationship as well as my training skills for dogs like him!

He was courageous, confident, and challenged me every day. His behaviour issues and anxiety could be frustrating but I am grateful for the dog he was. Having him in my life helped me to get clear on who I wanted to be and what direction I wanted my life – and career – to go in.

The success I had with Apollo showed me that I was more capable than I gave myself credit for. Our time together gave me the confidence to take my passion for dogs and dog training and turn it into a professional career. He inspired me to understand and work with dogs in a new way.

Training Apollo laid the groundwork for the methods of training I still use today. So, thank you, Apollo. I will always be grateful for the memories, the aggravation, and the learning.
